April 17th on the initiative of the project BECID (Baltic Center for Combating Information Disorders), an online seminar of all three Baltic States was organized, during which representatives of the countries of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia from various sectors discussed risks and possible cooperation initiatives in order to strengthen the digital resilience of society and increase media literacy in the Baltic States.
“Media and information literacy activities must be carried out continuously, but it is important to replace the competitive mindset with a collaborative one. A huge problem we face today is information overload, but also a lack of trust in the media and other institutions. We must educate the public, support and strengthen the media, with the help of international cooperation,” said BECID project manager Maia Klaasen, who presented the goals, ongoing activities and achievements of one year of operation of the BECID project.
During the discussion moderated by Professor Auksė Balčytienė in Lithuanian, the importance of strengthening trust in institutions was emphasized, it was agreed that public education, strengthening of cooperation between institutions, and the initiation of important research are necessary.
Points of contact and future plans were discussed in a general discussion in English. It was agreed that certain problems and challenges are similar in all the three Baltic countries and solutions can be found by working together.
